Leaky Gut

Have you heard of Leaky Gut Syndrome?

It’s front and center these days in the health and wellness community, as it should be.

Leaky Gut is becoming more and more common in our country and new research is showing that it is the underlying factor in many of our health problems.

Let’s start by talking about what exactly a Leaky Gut is.

Imagine that your digestive system is one long tunnel from mouth to anus.

Imagine this tunnel is lined with red bricks.

The part of this tunnel that makes up your small intestine is the part we are concerned with when we are talking about Leaky Gut.

Between each brick is a type of connector or junction that prevents critters from sneaking between the bricks.

In the body we call these spaces between the bricks tight junctions.

In a healthy person these connections are, as the name implies, tight and the bricks sit snugly together.

These bricks are an integral part of keeping partially digested food inside the intestine tunnel and out of the blood stream.

In a person who has a leaky gut, the junctions between those bricks (the bricks are the cells that line the small intestine) get less tight or “leaky” and start to separate so that larger undigested food particles can slip through the cracks.

When this happens in the body our immune system does its job and labels the food particles that snuck through the bricks as invaders and mounts an immune response.

The immune response can result in all sorts of different symptoms for YOU.

Some of the more common symptoms of Leaky Gut are:

  • Chronic diarrhea, constipation, or bloating

  • Nutritional deficiencies

  • Fatigue

  • Headaches

  • Confusion

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Skin problems (acne, rashes, or eczema)

  • Joint pain

  • Widespread inflammation

  • Food sensitivities

Doesn’t sound like fun does it?

It’s not.

But the good news is I can help you fix it and we can do this without harsh medications and with a food first approach.

We will first work to calm down the inflammation that you are experiencing.

We do this by testing for your food sensitivities and then I will custom design a short term diet that removes the foods your body finds most inflammatory.

Next we ‘heal and seal’ the lining of your small intestine (think construction crew with chinking material for the brick wall).

We use powerful supplements and nutrient dense foods (like bone broth, collagen and immunoglobulins) to support the tight junctions between the cells.

Then we check our work by retesting and adding foods back into your diet.

It’s that simple.

No more Leaky Gut and no mop needed.

But wait.

Does it really matter?

Can't you just ignore this whole Leaky Gut thing a bit longer?

Unresolved Leaky Gut can lead to much more serious issues like autoimmune diseases or permanent damage to the lining of your intestine.

So, YES.

It really does matter and your Leaky Gut is a time sensitive situation.

Once the bricks start to move apart they keep going unless a construction crew comes with chinking material to patch the holes.

It will get worse, not better, if left untreated.

If you suspect you may have a leaky gut, book a 60 minute Gut Health Discovery Call with me HERE so you can learn how to fix it and resolve your symptoms with a few easy steps.
