My Nutritional Therapy Toolbox: Supplements (The Shiny Object Everyone Wants to Know About)

Welcome back to my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner toolbox.

Today, we’re opening the drawer labeled “Supplements” and yes, it’s the sparkliest one.

I get asked about supplements all the time.

While I always take a food-first approach, we need a little extra support to fix what’s going on inside your gut.

That’s where supplements come in.

My clients have tried everything and still feel stuck, and supplements provide the targeted support we need to start seeing real change.

Let’s be clear:

 → Supplements aren’t magic pills.

→ They’re not a treatment for a disease.

→ They’re tools we use strategically to support your body’s ability to heal itself.

Sometimes that looks like replenishing vitamins or minerals that you’re low in.

Other times, it means supporting digestion directly with something like digestive enzymes, targeted probiotics, or hydrochloric acid to help break down and absorb your food.

Supplements serve many different purposes in a gut-healing plan.

But they’re always used strategically with intention and care.

The same way I don’t give every client the same food plan, I don’t give every client the same supplement protocol.

Because your body is unique, and so is your healing journey.

That said, not all supplements are created equal.

Just like with food, quality matters.

The supplement industry is surprisingly unregulated.

It’s kind of like the wild west out there.

That’s why I only recommend practitioner-grade supplements from companies that test for quality, purity, and potency.

The brands I trust are manufactured in FDA-registered facilities, inspected by third-party auditors, and follow Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

This means every capsule, powder, or tincture you get has been rigorously tested and is exactly what it says it is.

When it comes to your health, shortcuts aren’t an option.

Here’s a little story to show what this can look like in real life:

I worked with a college student who was balancing a packed schedule: competitive dance, sorority leadership, exams, a social life, all of it.

She came to me for digestive issues, but one of the things we noticed right away was that she wasn’t sleeping through the night.

Knowing that stress eats up magnesium fast, I suspected she might be low.

So, I recommended magnesium glycinate before bed.

And guess what?

She started sleeping through the night, consistently, for the first time in months.

That may seem like it has nothing to do with digestion, but here’s the thing:

Everything is connected.

→ Your sleep impacts your digestion.

→ Your digestion impacts your hormones.

→ Your hormones impact your mood.

→ Your mood impacts your nervous system.

→ Your nervous system impacts your sleep.

→ And around and around it goes.

I’ve worked with clients whose skin rashes cleared up after we supported their liver with targeted supplements.

Clients whose anxiety improved when we replenished their depleted B vitamins.

This is what I mean when I say I look at the full picture.

Even if you come to me for bloating or constipation, we’re going to support your entire system.

Supplements are just one more way we do that.

They’re not forever.

They’re not for everyone.

But when used intentionally, they can be a game changer.

If you’re curious about the supplements I use and trust, you can take a peek right now.
